Design Contests and Lessons Learnt...

Way back in 2009 December, Dubai was at its Economic worst. Most of the Real Estate firms that used to give me good business had either closed down or sailing through tough waters. that was the time when I thought of entering so called 'Design Contests' online. So many sites like crowdspring.com were offering such so called opportunities. First it felt like an interesting thing to do, as I had no idea how disastrous it could later turn out to be! These sites call themselves 'Crowdsourcing' sites. This term is a brand new Information Age term. I started entering these contests...

It was interesting at the beginning as I felt may be I am getting good response for my submissions. But then when none of them turned put to be winners it didn't take long for me to realize that these are convenience tricks played by contest organizers. There were hundreds of submissions even for a simple job. I had to come out of this madness at once and concentrate on some real work.

Nevertheless, I happened to create some contest work or in other words 'Spec Work'. I am sharing one of such works with you people. Most of the time I used to be in top 3, but what use, if that doesn't bring me any reward?

My first project was a Chewing gum packaging design project for a company called "Smoke Screen"...
